RBI Governor Visits Re-KYC Camps Across India

In a significant push to deepen financial inclusion and ensure the continued participation of every citizen in the formal banking system, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is actively supporting a nationwide Re-KYC and Financial Inclusion campaign. This campaign, running from July 1 to September 30, 2025, is being conducted at the Gram Panchayat level across the country. The initiative focuses on re-KYC (Know Your Customer) compliance, awareness on unclaimed deposits, grievance redressal, and the enrolment into social security schemes.

As of August 11, 2025, more than 1.41 lakh camps have been held, with over 35 lakh bank accounts updated through the re-KYC process. These numbers reflect the scale and urgency with which the financial system is working to bridge gaps in access and compliance.

RBI Leadership in Action

To further energize the campaign and assess ground-level impact, RBI Governor Shri Sanjay Malhotra and Deputy Governors are personally visiting Re-KYC camps across different states. Their visits serve both as a morale booster for field-level banking staff and a platform for customer interaction and feedback.

On August 11, Governor Sanjay Malhotra visited a Re-KYC camp at Gozaria Gram Panchayat in Mehsana, Gujarat. Accompanied by the MD & CEO of Bank of Baroda, RBI’s Regional Director, and senior officials from various banks, the Governor engaged with bank customers, Self Help Groups (SHGs), business correspondents, and bank representatives. In his address, he emphasized the need for strong collaboration between banks, the RBI, and local communities to achieve the goals of financial inclusion and customer empowerment.

Earlier, on August 8, Deputy Governor Shri M Rajeshwar Rao visited a camp at Ormanjhi Gram Panchayat in Ranchi, Jharkhand, where he reviewed the progress of the re-KYC campaign. On August 9, Deputy Governor Shri Swaminathan J attended a similar camp at Thirukandalam Gram Panchayat in Tiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu. These visits included participation from senior officials of Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, the District Collector, and RBI’s Regional Director.

Emphasizing Customer Responsibility

During their interactions, the RBI leadership highlighted the critical importance of keeping KYC details updated, not just for regulatory compliance but also for ensuring safe and uninterrupted banking services. Customers were urged to use these camps to enrol in social security schemes like PMJJBY, PMSBY, and APY, and to raise grievances for quick resolution.

Final Push Before September 30

With the campaign scheduled to run until September 30, 2025, the RBI has urged all bank customers to take advantage of the camps in their local areas. These camps provide on-the-spot re-KYC services, information about unclaimed deposits, and a direct channel for complaint resolution—bringing banking to the doorstep of rural India.

The campaign, coupled with the visible involvement of the RBI’s top leadership, reflects a strong commitment to inclusive banking and citizen-centric financial governance.
