The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a public notice dated August 16, 2025 requesting all medical colleges and institutions under its administrative purview to extend their support and cooperation in implementing the new national sports policy, ‘Khelo Bharat Niti-2025‘. The policy was announced by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports on July 1, 2025.
The ‘Khelo Bharat Niti-2025′ is built on five key pillars designed to transform India’s sports landscape. The policy’s pillars are:
- Nation’s Excellence on the Global Stage: This focuses on improving infrastructure and talent identification to enhance international competitiveness.
- Sports for Economic Development: This aims to leverage sports to boost industries such as tourism, manufacturing, and sports technology.
- Sports for Social Development: This pillar promotes inclusivity, health, and education through sports, fostering societal cohesion.
- Sports – A People’s Movement: This seeks to engage communities in physical activities, making sports a cultural cornerstone.
- Integration with Education: The policy aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by integrating sports with education to nurture holistic development in students.
The policy has been conceptualized to serve as a model for all and advocates for a “whole-of-government” approach, urging all Ministries and Departments to integrate sports promotion into their activities, schemes, and programs for a holistic impact.
