Driving India’s Export Growth

As part of the ongoing celebration of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,” the Government of India is taking significant strides to enhance the country’s export capabilities and strengthen domestic manufacturing. With a focus on comprehensive measures, the Ministry of Commerce & Industry is implementing various initiatives aimed at transforming India into a global export hub.

Boosting Exports through Strategic Initiatives

The government’s commitment to boosting exports is evident through its efforts to promote Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in global trade. This includes offering export incentives, organizing trade promotion events, and utilizing digital platforms to streamline processes. A notable achievement in this regard is the signing of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with the United Kingdom on July 24, 2025. This agreement marks a significant milestone in enhancing bilateral trade relations. Additionally, negotiations for the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement are ongoing, with the aim of concluding by the end of the year.

Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Schemes

To bolster domestic manufacturing and export capabilities, the government has introduced Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes across 14 key sectors, including Electronics, Pharmaceuticals, and Automobiles. These schemes are designed to enhance India’s manufacturing capabilities and exports by incentivizing domestic production. The result has been a surge in production, job creation, and significant investments from both domestic and foreign players. For instance, the PLI scheme for medical devices has led to the manufacturing of 54 unique medical devices, including advanced technologies like MRI and CT-Scan machines.

Logistics Reforms for Enhanced Efficiency

Recognizing the importance of efficient logistics in boosting exports, the Government of India has launched landmark initiatives such as the National Logistics Policy (NLP) and PM Gati Shakti. These initiatives aim to streamline the movement of goods and people by addressing bottlenecks and improving coordination among stakeholders. The PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan plays a crucial role in developing multimodal infrastructure, ensuring seamless connectivity and optimized resource utilization. Furthermore, the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) aims to establish globally competitive manufacturing hubs, positioning India as a key player in global supply chains.

Grassroots Initiatives: District Export Hubs

The government is also focusing on grassroots initiatives like the Districts as Export Hubs (DEH) and E-Commerce Export Hubs (ECEHs). These initiatives empower small and medium enterprises, including startups, to compete globally by reducing costs and simplifying regulations. The DEH initiative involves identifying products with export potential in various districts and establishing institutional mechanisms to promote exports. Meanwhile, the ECEHs aim to facilitate cross-border e-commerce exports by providing dedicated zones that streamline logistics and regulatory processes.
