MNRE Clarifies Wind Turbine Certification Update Process

According to the new clarification, wind turbine manufacturers are required to update or revise their Type Certificates to align with Clause 4(h) of the amendment within three months from the date of the amendment.

This clause 4(h) states as follows:

“The Type Certificate of the wind turbine model shall mandatorily include Blade, Tower, Gearbox, Generator and Special Bearings (Main, Pitch and Yaw Bearing) assembly/manufacturing facility. A Technical Team constituted by MNRE shall
inspect the manufacturing facilities for Blade, Tower, Gear Box, Generator and Special Bearings.

A separate List named as Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (Wind Turbine Components) i.e ALMM (Wind Turbine Components) will be issued after inspection of such facilities.

A separate Standard Operating procedure (SOP) for this inspection will be issued.

These components shall only be sourced from such facilities which are included in ALMM- (Wind Turbine Component).”

The circular also states that a clarification from a Type Certification Body, which specifies the location and address details of the components mentioned in Clause 4(h), will be considered for the update within the stipulated timeframe.
