NMC Releases Final MBBS Seat Matrix for 2025-26, Adds Over 5,700 New Seats

The increase is a result of both approvals for new medical colleges and additional seats sanctioned at existing institutions. The NMC noted that while 6,850 new seats were granted, 1,056 seats were reduced during the renewal process for the 2025-26 academic year.

Key Changes and Notable Additions by State

The new seat matrix reveals a dynamic landscape of medical education, with several states seeing major changes:

  • Andhra Pradesh: The state sees a net reduction of 200 seats due to a pending court matter at Gayathri Vidya Parishad Institute of Health Care & Medical Technology. However, it also gains 100 new seats with the establishment of Anna Gowri Medical College and Hospital. Other colleges, such as Santhiram Medical College, have been granted 50 additional seats.
  • Assam: The state has received a significant boost with a total of 125 new seats granted to three government medical colleges: Assam Medical College, Gauhati Medical College, and Silchar Medical College. Additionally, Pragjyotishpur Medical College has been approved with 50 new seats.
  • Bihar: The state has gained 300 new seats with approvals for two new private medical colleges, Mahabohdi Medical College & Hospital and Shyamlal Chandrashekhar Medical College & S P N M Hospital, each with 100 seats.
  • Karnataka: Several colleges have been granted additional seats, including Akash Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre with 100 seats and Mysore Medical College with 50 additional seats.
  • Maharashtra: The state has a total of 425 new seats approved across various private and government institutions. This includes two new private colleges, Smt Sakhubai Narayanrao Katkade Medical College and D. Y. Patil University, School of Medicine, with 100 and 50 seats respectively.
  • Uttar Pradesh: The state sees a major expansion with approvals for new colleges and significant seat increases at existing institutions. F.H. Medical College & Hospital and Naraina Medical College and Research Centre have both been granted 100 additional seats.

Reductions in Seat Counts

The matrix also highlights a few cases where seats were reduced:

  • Dr.Kiran C.Patel Medical College and Shantabaa Medical College in Gujarat both had their seat counts reduced by 50 during the renewal process.
  • Palakkad Institute of Medical Sciences in Kerala saw a reduction of 50 seats.
  • Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences & Research in Delhi had its 150 seats removed due to a pending court matter.

The NMC’s public notice directs all medical institutions, students, and parents to take note of this final seat matrix, which will serve as the definitive list for the NEET-UG 2025 counseling process.
