The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a revised list of its notified laboratories authorized to test fortificants in Fortified Rice (FR), Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK), and Vitamin-Mineral Premix for FRK. This order, dated November 17, 2025, supersedes a previous order issued on June 6, 2025, on the same matter.
The revised list of approved FSSAI notified laboratories is enclosed for the purpose of carrying out analysis of samples.
Testing Scope and Mandatory Fortificants
The approved laboratories are capable of testing the following three fortificants in the specified products:
- Iron.
- Vitamin B9.
- Vitamin B12.
The laboratories included in the list are categorized into three annexures based on the specific product they are authorized to test:
- Annexure 1: Lists laboratories for testing fortificants in Fortified Rice (FR).
- Annexure 2: Lists laboratories for testing fortificants in Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK).
- Annexure 3: Lists laboratories for testing fortificants in Vitamin-Mineral Premix for Fortified Rice Kernel.
Compliance and Validity
Laboratories shall accept samples for testing only if they possess a valid accreditation status.
The recognition and validity of these laboratories are governed by the guidelines or orders issued by FSSAI from time to time. The FSSAI advises that the latest accreditation validity of any listed laboratory should be verified from the NABL website before samples are sent for analysis.
