The Central Board of Indirect taxes and Customs (‘CBIC’) has issued a circular No 14/2019 – Customs, on 03rd June 2019 stating its decision to simplify the process of registration by importers and exporters (ie IEC Holders) on ICEGATE using the email addresses provided by them while obtaining GST registration.
Presently, IEC Registration is allowed on ICEGATE website, with Digital Signature and requires approval. Such registered IEC holders can file documents on ICEGATE. To attract importers and exporters for Registration on ICEGATE and to provide them various information services including reports, a need is felt to provide a Simplified Auto Registration on ICEGATE. This Simplified Auto Registration is based on IEC and GSTIN, requires OTP verifications of e-mail and mobile number.
The simplified Registration Module in ICEGATE is designed to register at the ICEGATE without the need to upload the Digital Signature Certificate (DSC), PAN verification, document upload to ICEGATE and approval procedure.
IEC holders registered under Simplified Auto Registration category are not permitted to file Customs documents. However, in cases in which the IEC holder intends to file any declarations with customs, it can be done using a digital signature.
Once the registration with ICEGATE is completed, the importers and exporters will also get an intimation of status updates on their consignments and PDF copies of their declaration on their registered email ids. There will also be an option of replying to queries raised by Custom officers, including those raised during post clearance audit under the login of the IEC holder so as to avoid the necessity of submitting the same physically at the Service Centre.
The government agencies enrolled with eSANCHIT will upload and issuing licenses, permits, certificates and other authorisations through the eSANCHIT and communicate the same to the beneficiaries (ie importers and exporters) via their email addresses given at the time of registration on ICEGATE.
