FSSAI vide Order No. 1-95/Stds/Mics/SP(L&C/A)FSSAI-2015 dated 18.07.2019 and 15.11.2017 had directed the Food Business Operators to discontinue manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import of stapled tea bags by 30th June 2019. Soon after the notification, the stakeholders made representations raising the issue the difficulty of cost involved in changing over staple-less machines and presence of a few such manufacturers globally.
After examining the matter, a blanket extension for implementation of the order has been provided. However, the extension may be provided from case to case based on the firm commitment from FBOs with proper proof to change within a specified time.
All the FBOs are directed to submit their plan to change over to new system by procuring the new machines or modify the existing machines.
