Battery Producers Granted Extension for Annual Returns Under Waste Management Rules

The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has announced a three-month extension for battery producers to submit their Annual Returns for the Financial Year 2024-25, under the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022. The new deadline for filing these returns is now September 30, 2025. This extension order was issued on July 10, 2025.

The Ministry’s decision to grant this extension is in line with Rule 14(6) of the same rules, which permits the Central Government to relax timelines for filing returns by producers, recyclers, and refurbishers for up to nine months, to ensure effective implementation of the regulations.

This extension aims to provide adequate time for battery producers to accurately compile and submit their data regarding waste battery management. The order was issued with the approval of the Competent Authority.
