CBME Guidelines Amendment Cannot be Applied Retrospectively

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a public notice clarifying that the amendment dated 1st September, 2023 to the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) Guidelines will not be applied retrospectively. This notice was issued on 3rd October, 2023.

This decision comes as a corrigendum to the previously issued amendment, dated September 1, 2023 and affecting page number 58 of the CBME Guidelines.

The amendment, introduced on September 1st, aimed to make adjustments to the CBME Guidelines in response to evolving standards and practices in medical education. However, after careful and thorough consideration of the matter, it has been determined that implementing the amendment with retrospective effect is not feasible.

The decision not to apply the amendment retrospectively ensures that the previously established guidelines and standards will remain in effect for those who have already undergone medical education or training.
