Central Government Sets Energy Consumption Norms for Designated Consumers

The Central Government, in consultation with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), has announced energy consumption norms and standards for designated consumers. These norms and standards, specified for the period from 2023-24 to 2025-26, are aimed at regulating and improving energy consumption practices across various sectors. These norms were notified on 27th June, 2023.

The specified designated consumers will now have specific energy consumption norms and standards to follow. These norms and standards have been established in relation to the current level of energy consumption. The baseline energy consumption norms and standards serve as a reference point for comparison.

Designated consumers, as mentioned in the respective sectors, are required to comply with the specified energy consumption norms and standards by the target year of 2025-26. This compliance is essential to ensure that these consumers contribute towards achieving greater energy efficiency and sustainability goals.

The implementation of these energy consumption norms and standards will necessitate designated consumers to assess their current energy consumption levels and adopt measures to meet the prescribed targets. This will involve a careful evaluation of energy consumption patterns, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing energy-efficient technologies and practices.
