Central Motor Vehicles (Fifth Amendment) Rules, 2023

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways vide notification dated 12th September, 2023 has issued the Central Motor Vehicles (Fifth Amendment) Rules, 2023. The amendment provides that the enewal of certificate of fitness in respect of transport vehicles shall be within:

  1. Two years for vehicles up to eight years old and
  2. One year for vehicles older than eight years: Provided that the fitness of the vehicle of the category heavy goods vehicle, heavy passenger motor vehicle, medium goods vehicle, medium passenger motor vehicle and light motor vehicle shall be done mandatorily only through an automated testing station registered under rule 175 with effect from 01st October 2024 and that where the automated testing station registered under rule 175 is operational in the jurisdiction of a registering authority, the fitness of the vehicle shall be done only through such automated testing station with effect from the commencement of the Central Motor Vehicles (Fifth Amendment) Rules, 2023.
