Gurgaon: The district’s biggest and busiest hospital does not have a fire safety certificate, official documents have revealed.

The hospital, some parts of which are already in a dilapidated condition and awaiting renovation, has not renewed the fire safety certificate for a year, according to the documents.

While more than 400 patients visit the hospital’s outpatient department (OPD) every day, at least 100 patients are admitted to its emergency department.

Besides this, hundreds of people visit the hospital to meet patients and around 100 employees, including doctors, nurses and ward boys, work here.

Garbage burning on the hospital premises, increases fire risk, a hospital employee said on condition of anonymity. However, the fire department said it cannot take an action against the hospital authorities “as the rules do not have any such provision”.
“The Fire Safety Acts and Rules state that it is the responsibility of the occupant or the owner to obtain the no-objection certificate for a building. So, we cannot take any legal action and can only wait for the hospital authorities to reapply for new fire safety certificate,” fire safety officer IS Kashyap told TOI.
Asked why the hospital did not possess the mandatory fire safety certificate, the district administration said it was a failure of the authorities concerned. “We accept that there has been negligence on our part and necessary measures will be taken. We will ensure that the fire NOC is sought within 15 days,” said deputy commissioner T L Satyaprakash.
