CPCB Requests E-waste Stakeholders To Register On Online Portal

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has issued a notice requesting producers, manufacturers, recyclers and refurbishes of e-waste to register on the online Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) portal. This notice was dated December 22, 2023.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC) had notified the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022 on November 2, 2022. These rules have come into force from April 1, 2023. The rules seek to ensure scientific and environmentally sound management of e-waste.

The rules also stipulate that producers, manufacturers, recyclers and refurbishes of e-waste must register on the EPR portal. Such entities shall not carry out any business activities in the absence of a registration. Similarly, entities shall not deal with any unregistered producers, manufacturers, recyclers and refurbishes. All illegal or informal e-waste business such as production, import, sales, recycling and refurbishing without a registration shall attract punitive actions.

Therefore, in light of this, CPCB has developed an online EPR Portal for management of e-waste. Hence, all producers, manufacturers, recyclers and refurbishes of e-waste are requested register on this portal by December 31, 2023.

Procedural details for registration are provided on the portal. Moreover, further clarifications can be obtained at ewaste2.cpcb@gov.in
