Draft Environment (Protection) Amendment Rules, 2023

The Central Government has introduced the draft Environment (Protection) Amendment Rules, 2023. This notification was issued on 17th October, 2023.

The draft rules are made available to the public and will be taken into consideration on or after 16th December, 2023.

Members of the public who are likely to be affected by these rules are encouraged to express their objections or suggestions. Those interested in providing feedback on the proposed amendments can do so by submitting written objections or suggestions within the specified period.

Objections and suggestions can be sent in writing to the Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Indira Paryavaran Bhawan, Jor Bagh Road, New Delhi-110003. Additionally, comments can also be emailed to mscb.cpcb@nic.in and sonu.singh@gov.in.

The draft rules introduce detailed standards for the caustic soda industry. These include:

  • Effluent standards
  • Standards for water consumption and waste water generation
  • Standards for fugitive emission
  • Standards for process emission

The introduction of these rules underscores the government’s commitment to environmental protection and its desire to engage the public in shaping policies that affect their communities.
