Enforcement Date of Machinery and Electrical Equipment Safety Order Deferred

The Ministry of Heavy Industries has issued an order to further amend the implementation timeline for the Machinery and Electrical Equipment Safety (Omnibus Technical Regulation) Order, 2024. The new order, called the Machinery and Electrical Equipment Safety (Omnibus Technical Regulation) Second Amendment Order, 2025, comes into force immediately upon its publication on November 13, 2025.

Amendment to Implementation Date

The key change is the substitution of the enforcement date specified in Paragraph 1, sub-Paragraph (2) of the 2024 Order:

  • Previous Deferred Date: The enforcement date, which had been previously amended to read “on the 1st September, 2026,” has been removed.
  • New Clause: The words “from such date as may be notified by the Central Government in the Official Gazette” shall be substituted.

This amendment effectively removes the previously fixed date of September 1, 2026, and means that the Omnibus Technical Regulation Order will now be enforced only when the Central Government issues a fresh notification in the Official Gazette. This measure is taken in the public interest and in consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
