ESIC brings changes in setting up a local committee of employees and employers

Employees’ State Insurance Corporation vide notification dated 18th May 2020 has issued the Employees’ State Insurance (General) (Second) Amendment Regulations, 2020 to further amend the Employees’ State Insurance (General) Regulation, 1950.

As per the amendment, a Local Committee may be set up in each notified district and shall consist of a Chairperson nominated by Regional Director of the State/Union Territory, an official of the State to be nominated by the State Government, six representatives of employees, six representatives of the employers and the Officer In-charge of such District for which the committee is constituted shall be ex-officio Member Secretary.

Provided that where the Chairman, Regional Board, so considers it to be expedient, he may nominate such additional representatives of employers and employees, not exceeding two from each side.

The members shall hold office for 3 years and the member of the local committee shall cease to be a member of the committee if he fails to attend three consecutive meetings thereof provided that his membership may be restored by the Regional Director, on being satisfied as to the unavoidable nature of the circumstances which led to his non-attendance.
