The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India(FSSAI) vide Notification dated 1st January 2020 has decided to extend the timeline for compliance of labelling provisions for the frozen desserts or confections products with added vegetable oil or fat or vegetable protein till the final decision of FSSAI regarding nomenclature of frozen desert under the FSS (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Thirteenth Amendment Regulations, 2017.
The time for compliance with provisions for the frozen desserts or confections products with added vegetable oil or fat or vegetable protein under Notification dated 12 October 2017 has been initially till 1 January 2019, which was later extended twice and 1 January 2020 was set as deadline.
Since FSSAI has been receiving representation from stakeholders requesting for further extension of time for compliance, as the issue of nomenclature was still under review in FSSAI.
Therefore after considering the representations, FSSAI has decided to further extend the timeline of implementation until it arrives a final decision on the nomenclature of frozen dessert.
However, the food business operators are required to comply with all other standards/labeling provisions specified for the said products under the regulation.
