The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a notice inviting draft technical specifications from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and suppliers for several High End Equipment (HEEs).
The goal is to finalize the technical specifications for these advanced analytical instruments.
Equipment Under Consideration
The three types of High End Equipment for which specifications are being sought are:
- LC-HRMS (Liquid Chromatography-High Resolution Mass Spectrometry): An analytical technique that combines liquid chromatography for separation with high-resolution mass spectrometry for accurate mass measurement and identification of compounds in complex mixtures.
- LC-IRMS (Liquid Chromatography-Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry): An analytical method combining liquid chromatography for separation with isotope ratio mass spectrometry for isotopic analysis, often used in food authentication and contaminant tracing.
- EA-IRMS (Elemental Analyzer-Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry): A system that simultaneously measures stable isotope ratios (e.g., carbon and nitrogen) of bulk organic material, used for quantification and characterization.
Submission and Presentation Details
The timeline for the submission and subsequent deliberation is as follows:
Draft technical specifications, in editable soft copy, must be submitted via email by December 1, 2025.
FSSAI may hold a physical mode presentation on the technical specifications of the equipment on December 3, 2025 (Wednesday) at the FSSAI HQ, FDA Bhawan, Kotla Road, New Delhi.
Registration and Participation
OEMs and suppliers of the HEEs must register themselves via the provided link to be allowed to give a presentation. Only two participants will be permitted from each registered firm, OEM, or supplier.
In cases where both the OEM and its supplier submit draft technical specifications for the same equipment, only the submission of the OEM will be considered. FSSAI is not bound to accept all submitted comments or guarantee their finalization.
