FSSAI notifies the Methods for testing of Fortificants (Iron, Folic Acid and Vitamin B12) in Fortified Rice.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India on 8th September 2022, notified the Methods for testing of Fortificants (Iron, Folic Acid and Vitamin B12) in Fortified Rice and directed the food testing laboratories to follow the notified methods.

The method for Determination of Iron in Fortified Rice, is applicable for Quantification of Iron at 10 ppm LOQ Level (with respect to the Sample) by using ICP-MS and the method for Determination of Folic Acid (Vitamin B9) in Fortified Rice uses Potassium Hydrogen Phosphate, L-Ascorbic Acid, α-Amylase, Potassium Hydroxide, etc.

Further, the scope of the Method for Determination of Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) in Fortified Rice, includes for Quantification of Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) at 0.5 ppb LOQ Level (with respect to the Sample) by using LC-MS/MS.
