The Indian Nursing Council (INC) has issued a notification to clarify the reservation policy for Foreign Students across various nursing programs, specifying the permitted Supernumerary seats based on institutional capacity and hospital size.
The notification supersedes a prior INC notification dated May 5, 2022.
Reservation Details
The supernumerary seats for foreign students are determined by the institution’s capacity for General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) and B.Sc. (N) programs:
10% Supernumerary Seats
This quota is permissible in all nursing institutions running GNM to M.Sc. (N) programs and Clinical Speciality courses that have 60 or less than 60 suitable seats for GNM and B.Sc. (N) programs.
25% Supernumerary Seats
This higher quota is granted to institutions that meet two specific criteria:
- They have been granted 100 or more suitable seats for GNM and B.Sc. (N) programs under Section 13 and 14 of the INC Act, 1947.
- They have a 300 bedded parent hospital or more.
Conditions of Applicability
This supernumerary quota applies only to those institutions that are found suitable by the Indian Nursing Council under Section 13 and 14 of the INC Act, 1947.
It is further clarified that this supernumerary quota of foreign students will not be filled by any other quota/general seats. The total number of foreign admissions in an academic year must be uploaded in the Nursing Admission module available under the Nurses Registration and Tracking System (NRTS).
