Meghalaya issues a deadline to comply with Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2016

The Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board issued a public notice on June 6, 2019, directing all the persons and institutions like Laboratories, Hospitals, Nursing homes, Clinics, Dispensaries, Veterinary institutes, Animal Houses, Pathological Laboratories, Blood Banks, Ayush Hospitals, Clinical Establishments, Research or Educational Institutions, Health camps, Medical or Surgical Camps, Vaccination Camps, Blood Donation Camps, First Aid rooms of Schools, Forensic Laboratories and Research Labs, irrespective of their size/ number of patients/ the quantity of Waste generation to make application in Form II to Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board for the grant of authorization of the Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2016.

All the concerned persons and institutions are required to comply with the said Rules within one month from the date of publication of the notice and any failure to comply will attract the liability under Environment Protection Act, 1986, which includes imprisonment for a period of 5 years or fine of Rs 1 Lakh or both.
