Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issues guidelines for rational use of PPE

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in the context of the heavy spread of COVID 19, has issued guidelines for health care workers and others working for various health care centres. The guidelines directs how & when to use where Personal Protective Equipment.

It defines Personal Protective Equipment as protective gears designed to safeguard the health of workers by minimizing the exposure to a biological agent. It lists goggles, face-shield, mask gloves, coverall/gowns(with or without aprons), head cover and shoe covers as PPE.

They must be used depending upon the risk profile of the health care workers. It also stipulates that PPE’s are not alternatives to basic preventive public health measures such as hand hygiene, respiratory etiquettes which must be followed at all times.

The measures have been taken in light of COVID 19 and to care for the medical fraternity.
