MoA&FW issues a Press Release on its Ban of Certain Pesticides

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW) has issued a press release regarding the Banning of Pesticides. The press release was issued on 3rd February, 2023.

The press release states that based on the receipt of new studies/reports/ references/ information by the government from time to time, registered pesticides are reviewed with regard to their safety and efficacy. 

After due consultation with the Registration Committee, along with the recommendations of the expert committees, the MoA&FW has banned or phased out 46 pesticides and 4 pesticide formulations for import, manufacture, or use in the country. In addition, 8 pesticide registrations have been withdrawn. And further, the use of 9 pesticides has been restricted.

Simultaneously, the government is promoting the use of bio-pesticides. These are generally safer than chemical pesticides. For this, the approved pesticides on various crops are displayed in the public domain on the official website of the Directorate of Plant Protection Quarantine & Storage.
