MoEFCC has proposed changes in parameters and standards of pharmaceutical drug manufacturing under environmental protection rules.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, on January 23, 2020, has issued The Draft Environment (Protection) Amendment Rules, 2019 inviting suggestions and objections.

The amendments are brought in entry 73 in Schedule I of the Principal Rules. Currently, the entry is for Pharmaceutical (Manufacturing And Formulation) Industry. The draft proposes to change it into “Bulk Drug and Formulation (Pharmaceutical) Industry”.

Further the sludge containing antibiotic residues shall be incinerated and the standard of incinerator notified for common hazardous waste incinerator or industry specific incinerator shall be applicable.

Objections or suggestions for the draft amendments may be sent by 23rd March 2020, to the Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Indira Paryavaran Bhawan, Jor Bagh Road, New Delhi-110003, or may be sent to the Member Secretary, Central Pollution Control Board and Scientist ‘E’ Ministry at the e-mail address mscb.cpcb@nic.in and h.kharkwal@nic.in.
