The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine on 9th March 2022 has published the Minimum Standard of Undergraduate Siddha Education Regulations, 2022 which prescribes the eligibility criteria for admission and duration of the course.
The Bachelor of Siddha education namely, the Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery (B.S.M.S.) shall produce Graduates, having profound knowledge of Siddha Medicine along with the contemporary advances in the field of Siddha Medicine supplemented with knowledge of scientific and technological advances in modern sciences and technology along with extensive practical training, as an efficient physicians and surgeons for the health care services.
The eligibility to seek admission in Bachelor of Siddha Education (Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery) shall be as under,-
The candidate shall have passed 10+2 or its equivalent examination from any recognised Board with Physics, Chemistry and Biology and shall have obtained minimum of fifty per cent. marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the case of General category and forty per cent. marks in the case of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes and candidate shall have passed Tamil as one of the subjects in the 10th Standard or in 12th Standard.
Further no candidate shall be admitted to B.S.M.S Degree programme unless he has attained the age of seventeen years on or before the 31st December of the year of his admission in the first year of the programme and not more than twenty-five years on the 31stDecember of the year of admission in the first year of the programme.
The duration of the B.S.M.S Programme shall be five years and six months. The candidate shall be awarded Siddha Maruthuva Arignar (Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery – B.S.M.S.) Degree after passing all the examinations and completion of the laid down programme of study extending over the laid down period and the compulsory rotatory internship extending over twelve months and the nomenclature of Degree shall be Siddha Maruthuva Arignar (Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery – B.S.M.S.
