New Quality Control Order for Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) Homopolymers 

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, has issued a new order, titled the “Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) Homopolymers (Quality Control) Order, 2024”. This order was published in the Official Gazette of India on February 27, 2024. The order states that it is being issued in the public interest and after consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). 

The order applies to Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) homopolymers, which are a type of plastic resin used in a wide variety of applications, including pipes, tubes, wires, and cables, flooring, and building materials.

The order requires that PVC homopolymers manufactured or sold in India must conform to the Indian Standard IS 17658:2021, titled “Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) Homopolymers – Specification”. The order also requires that PVC homopolymers manufactured or sold in India must bear the Standard Mark under a license from the BIS. The BIS will be the certifying and enforcing authority for the order.

The order will come into effect 180 days from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette of India, which is 25th August, 2024.
