The National Medical Commission (NMC) has taken stringent action against four senior doctors serving as Assessors with the Commission, blacklisting them following a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on June 30, 2025. The FIR (No. RC2182025A0014) was lodged under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and also implicates some medical colleges and private individuals. The matter is currently under investigation.
In a strong response, the NMC reiterated its serious view on such matters and announced that, pending investigation and a final verdict, the four implicated Assessors have been blacklisted.
Furthermore, the Commission has decided to significantly impact six medical colleges:
- No Renewal of Existing Seats:
The renewal of existing undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) seats for these six medical colleges will not be processed for the Academic Year 2025-26.
- Cancellation of New Applications:
All applications received by the Medical Assessment & Rating Board from these colleges for increasing seats or starting new UG and PG courses for the Academic Year 2025-26 shall be cancelled and will not be processed further.
The NMC has advised all medical colleges and stakeholders to strictly conform to the NMC Rules and Regulations, emphasizing the importance of upholding the ethos of quality medical education, professionalism, and public trust. This action underscores the NMC’s commitment to maintaining integrity within the medical education system.
