NMC directs Medical Colleges to comply with SC directions on implementation of POSH Act

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed medical colleges to comply with Supreme Court (SC) directions on implementation of Sexual Harassment of Women at Work Place (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act). This notice was issued on 28th July, 2023.

According to this notice, all medical colleges shall comply with the following directions issued by the SC:

a) Verification of ICCs/LCs Composition: The Supreme Court has mandated all Health Institutions and Medical Colleges to carry out a thorough verification process to ensure the existence of properly constituted Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs) or Local Committees (LCs) or Internal Committees (ICs), as applicable in each case.

b) Transparency and Information Dissemination: All Health Institutions and Medical Colleges are also directed to make essential information regarding the constitution and composition of ICCs/LCs/ICs readily available. This includes providing details such as designated person(s)’ contact information, procedures for submitting online complaints, as well as relevant rules, regulations, and internal policies.

Website Update Mandate:

The SC has instructed that the required information must be made easily accessible on the official website of each respective Institution, Organization, Authority, or Functionary Body. The information must be kept up-to-date and readily available for stakeholders to access at any time.
