The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a public notice dated August 6, 2025, requesting all medical institutions under its administrative purview to observe Anti-Ragging Day on August 12, 2025, followed by an Anti-Ragging Week from August 12 to August 18, 2025. The directive is based on an advisory from the University Grants Commission (UGC) dated July 22, 2025.
The UGC advisory emphasizes that its regulations on curbing ragging in higher educational institutions are mandatory. All institutions are required to implement these regulations in their entirety and ensure strict compliance, including setting up monitoring mechanisms. The UGC has also undertaken media campaigns and other awareness activities, including uploading anti-ragging videos on its website for institutions to use.
To further increase awareness, the UGC has outlined several activities for institutions to adopt during the Anti-Ragging Day and Week:
- Inaugural ceremonies to mark the beginning of the day/week.
- Competitions such as slogan writing, essay writing, poster making, and street plays on anti-ragging themes.
- Social media campaigns, video messages from heads of institutions, and creating social media posts to disseminate anti-ragging messages.
- Awareness activities like workshops, seminars, and interactive sessions.
- Encouraging students to participate in the National Contest 2025 on Digital Posters, Reels, and Short Videos, with details available on the UGC website.
- Screening anti-ragging short films and TVCs for students and faculty.
- Forwarding the advisory to all colleges within their jurisdiction to ensure wide participation.
Medical institutions have been requested to submit an Action Taken Report on the activities conducted and student participation via a link provided on the UGC’s anti-ragging website.
The public notice, issued by NMC Secretary, aims to ensure that medical institutions actively participate in this initiative, thereby upholding a safe and respectful educational environment.
