Paid Holiday Declared by Himachal Pradesh Government for Panchayat By-Elections

The Himachal Pradesh government through a press release on 22nd February, 2024 has announced a paid holiday on 25th February 2024, subject to the occurrence of elections, in the Gram Panchayat areas where by-elections are scheduled to fill vacancies in the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) across the state. This holiday extends to daily wage employees.

According to the press release, all government offices, boards, corporations, educational institutions, banks, post offices, industries registered under the Industrial Dispute Act, and shops located in the polling areas will remain closed on the designated day.

Employees working in various locations within the state who hold the right to vote in the concerned Panchayat may avail casual leave upon presenting a certificate from the presiding officer, ensuring their participation in the electoral process.

This proactive measure by the Himachal Pradesh government aims to facilitate voter turnout and ensure the smooth conduct of the Panchayat by-elections, underscoring the significance of civic engagement and democratic participation in the state.
