Revised Date of Poll for 3-Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary Constituency in Jammu & Kashmir

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is a press note announcing the decision to revise the date of the poll for the 3-Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary Constituency in the ongoing General Election to Lok Sabha, 2024.

This decision was made in response to representations from various political parties of the UT of Jammu & Kashmir, citing logistical, communication, and natural barriers hindering campaigning and leading to a lack of fair opportunities for contesting candidates in the said Parliamentary Constituency.

After considering the report from the UT administration and analyzing the ground situation, the ECI invoked Section 56 of the Representation of People Act, 1951, to shift the poll date from 7th May, 2024 to 25th May, 2024.

The ECI had previously announced the schedule for the General Election to the Lok Sabha, with the Notification for the 3rd Phase issued on 12th April, 2024 and the Poll Day initially scheduled on 7th May, 2024.

However, the decision to revise the date of the poll for the 3-Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary Constituency was based on the challenges discussed above, which were seen as jeopardizing the fairness of the poll process.
