Special Drives Launched to Combat Milk Adulteration During Festive Season

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has decided to conduct surveillance and enforcement drives in light of the ensuing festive season. This notice was issued on March 21, 2024.

As the festive season approaches, authorities are gearing up to tackle the surge in demand for milk and milk products like Khoya and sweets. This demand is often accompanied by a rise in adulteration attempts. Recognizing the economic incentives behind such practices, the FSSAI is taking proactive measures to safeguard consumer health and ensure product safety.

Food Safety Officers (FSOs) and Designated Officers are spearheading special surveillance and enforcement drives. The drives will particularly target areas notorious for adulteration. These efforts aim to curb malpractices and uphold food safety standards, crucial during times of heightened consumption.

FSSAI has urged state authorities to keep strict vigil in monitoring the manufacturing and sale of milk-related products. FSOs will conduct frequent enforcement and surveillance activities, including the deployment of Food Safety on Wheels (FSW) in key markets. Additionally, they will also undertaake targeted actions based on specific intelligence inputs. All these measures aim to uphold food quality standards and bolster consumer confidence nationwide.

FSSAI also urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
