The Dept. of Chemicals & Petro-chemicals publicises the status of enforcement date of 33 QCOs

The Dept. of Chemicals and Petro-chemicals has published the status of enforcement date of 33 Quality Control Orders (QCOs)  in respect of Chemical Tariff lines. This status list was notified on 27th January, 2023.

It may be recalled that the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals has made Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) standards mandatory for major chemicals. This aims to ensure that both domestic manufacturers and overseas suppliers meet the BIS parameters to ensure adequate safety of human, animal health & protect environment.

It light of this objective, the Dept. had notified 33 QCOs till date. The present notification provides the status of enforcement of these 33 QCOs in an tabular form.

A scrutiny of this table reveals the following:

  1. The 3rd amendment in QCO of Morpholine dated 27th July, 2022, will come into force from 01.02.2023

2. The following QCOs dated 27th July, 2022, will come into force from 03.02.2023:

  • 6th amendment for implementation of QCO of Acetic Acid dated 27.07.2022
  • 6th amendment for implementation of QCO of Methanol dated 27.07.2022
  • 6th amendment for implementation of QCO of Aniline dated 27.07.2022

3. The following QCOs dated 11th August 2022, will come into force from 13.03.2023:

  • 4th amendment of QCO of Pyridine dated 11.8.2022
  • 4th amendment of QCO of Gamma Picoline dated 11.8.2022
  • 4th amendment in QCO of Beta Picoline dated 11.8.2022
  • 4th amendment in QCO of Potassium Carbonate dated 11.8.2022
  • 5th amendment for implementation of QCO of Acetone
  • 4th amendment in QCO of Sodium Tripolyphosphate

All other 22 QCOs have already come into force in 2022.
