The government of Tamil Nadu extends the lockdown till 31st May while easing relaxation in certain districts

The State Government of Tamil Nadu in its press release dated 17th May 2020 has extended the lockdown till 31st May with certain relaxations in the prevailing restrictions, applicable only for 25 districts of the state.

The 25 districts includes Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Tiruppur, Namakkal, Karur, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Theni, Madurai, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Dindigul, Pudukkottai, Trichy, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Vellore and Niligiris.

The relaxations are as follows:

  1. The residents of the 25 districts may use hired taxi for essential transportation.
  2. Industries in areas outside Greater Chennai Police limits having below 100 employees capacity, may function with full capacity and the industries have more than 100 employees can function with 100 employees.
  3. Permission is to be given for private commercial establishments to function with minimum employees for maintenance works.
  4. No e-pass needed for vehicles within the district.
  5. In the 12 districts where intra-district transport is not allowed, plying of taxis and autorickshaws is allowed with e-pass for medical emergencies only.

The bar on the functioning of educational institutions, public entry into religious places etc. already in force will continue throughout the state.
