The Motor Vehicles Non-Transport Vehicles Visiting India Rules, 2022.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on 2nd September 2022, published the Motor Vehicles Non Transport Vehicles Visiting India Rules, 2022. Under this rule, A non-transport vehicle registered in the other country, when entering India, shall be so constructed and maintained as to be at all times under the effective control of the person driving it.

The following documents shall be carried in the vehicle during the duration of stay in India, namely:

  • registration certificate.
  • driving license or international driving permit, whichever is applicable
  • insurance policy
  • pollution under control certificate, if applicable in the origin country.

The person driving the motor vehicle shall keep all the documents in his possession at the time of entering in India and during the entire period of stay, and shall always make available for inspection by the competent authority. In case the documents are in a language other than English, then, an authorised English translation, duly authenticated by the issuing authority, shall be carried along with the original documents. The registration mark, in case displayed in any language other than English, shall be exhibited in English at the front and back of the vehicle.

Further the Motor vehicles registered in any country other than India shall not be permitted to transport local passengers and goods within the territory of India.
