The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued a Corrigendum to correct the tie-breaking principle used in the Combined Medical Services Examination, 2025. The Corrigendum, dated November 6, 2025, corrects an error in the rules regarding the ranking of candidates who score the same marks in the Combined Medical Services Examination, 2025. This rule is applied after the primary tie-breaker (marks in the examination) has been exhausted.
The error was found in Para (B)(ii) of the addendum related to the ‘Tie-Breaking Principle’ published in the Gazette of India on August 20, 2025.
| Published in August 2025 (For) | Corrected Rule (Read) |
| Point (B)(ii): If the marks at (i) above are equal, the candidate younger in age will be ranked higher. | Point (B)(ii): If the marks at (i) above are equal, the candidate senior in age will be ranked higher. |
Impact of the Change
The correction reverses the priority for tie-breaking based on age:
- Original Rule (Incorrect): Favored the younger candidate (younger ranked higher).
- New Rule (Corrected): Now favors the senior or older candidate (senior ranked higher).
This means that if two candidates have equal marks after applying the first tie-breaking criteria, the one who is older will be given the higher rank in the final merit list.
