Travel allowance to non-official members of ESIC, Standing Committee or Medical Benefit Council

The Government of India, Ministry of Labour of Employment vide its notification dated 14th June 2020 has published the Employees’ State Insurance (Central) Amendment Rules, 2020.

Amendments are made to Rule 5, Clause (1) A of Travelling allowance and clause (2) B of Daily allowance in the Employees’ State Insurance (Central) Rule, 1950. As per the provisions of rule (2) & rule(3) of the Employees’ State Insurance (Central) Rule, 1950, every non-official member of the Corporation, Standing Committee or the Medical Benefit Council is allowed to get travelling and daily allowance for attending the meetings of the Corporation or the Standing Committee or the Medical Benefit Council.

The amendments are as follows:-

(1) Travelling allowance of a non-official member residing at the place where a meeting is held shall be allowed the actual expenditure incurred by him on conveyance subject to the maximum of “rupees three hundred and thirty-eight for travel within the city.” Before the amendment, it was “rupees one hundred and fifty for each day for travel within the city.”

(2) Daily allowance a non-official member, not residing at the place where a meeting is held shall be paid, Rs. 1500 per day if the member stays in the hotel and not exceeding Rs. 200 per day as expenses towards food. The new amendment raised the daily allowance from Rs 1500 per day to Rs 2250 per day if the member stays in the hotel & from Rs 200 to Rs 900 per day as the expense towards food.
