The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has seized approximately 6,500 kg of adulterated ghee, with an estimated market value of ₹35 lakhs, from M/s Korova Milk Product Private Limited, a dairy unit in Rajkot, Gujarat. This action was part of a special ghee surveillance drive launched by the FSSAI to prevent the adulteration of ghee with foreign fats.
The seizure occurred during a follow-up inspection on August 20, 2025, after an initial round of samples tested at an FSSAI-notified laboratory were confirmed to be “sub-standard” and adulterated with vegetable fat. This is a direct violation of the Food Safety and Standards Regulations, 2011.
The Food Business Operator (FBO) was given a one-month window to appeal the initial lab results by submitting a sample to a referral laboratory, but no appeal was filed.
Following the confirmed evidence of adulteration, FSSAI seized all available stocks of food ingredients and finished goods at the unit. New samples have also been collected for further analysis. The Central Licensing Authority is preparing to take additional legal and regulatory action based on the final lab results and the outcome of its investigation.
FSSAI has a zero-tolerance policy towards food adulteration and is committed to ensuring that all food business operators strictly comply with safety standards. The authority reiterated that consumers have a right to safe and unadulterated food and that any violations will be dealt with strictly under the provisions of the FSS Act.
