BIS Establishes New Standards for 2,4-Di-Tertiary Butyl Phenol and Incense Sticks 

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under the Department of Consumer Affairs, has announced the establishment of two new Indian Standards aimed at improving product quality and safety across the chemical and consumer goods sectors.

The standards were officially established on October 30, 2025, as per Notification No. HQ-PUB013/1/2020-PUB-BIS (1350), in accordance with Sub-rule (1) of Rule (15) of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018.

Newly Established Standards

  1. IS 19377:2025 — 2,4-Di-Tertiary Butyl Phenol — Specification
    This standard defines the quality, purity, and testing requirements for 2,4-Di-Tertiary Butyl Phenol, a key chemical used as an antioxidant and stabilizer in industrial applications.
  2. IS 19412:2025 — Incense Sticks (Agarbatti) — Specification
    This standard sets quality parameters and safety benchmarks for incense sticks, ensuring consistency in fragrance, burning time, and material safety for consumers.

Both standards are newly established and do not replace any previous versions.
