Central Government revises the working days of the Debt Recovery Tribunal

The Central Government notifies the Debts Recovery Tribunal (Procedure) Amendment Rules, 2020. This Amendment was issued by a notification dated 26th August 2020 and comes into effect from 27th August 2020.

The amendment, in fact, brings forth a change in the working days of the Debt Recovery Tribunal. The office of the Tribunal will now be closed on Fourth Saturdays as well. Prior to this Amendment, the Tribunal was open on all days except Second Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The office hours remain unchanged, i.e. from 10am to 6pm and only urgent work is admitted after 4:30pm on any given working day.

Moreover, interestingly, the original rules stipulated for all Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays to be non-working days for the Tribunal. However, in the year 2016 these Rules were amended to include all Saturdays as working days for the Tribunal except for Second Saturdays.
