In response to continued heavy rainfall and extensive waterlogging across various parts of the city, the Chandigarh Administration has issued a series of urgent orders and advisories to ensure public safety and prevent accidents.
These instructions are aimed at the general public, as well as government/semi-government offices and private institutions.
🛑 Key Public Safety Advisories Issued:
Avoid Water Bodies:
- Residents are strictly advised not to enter lakes, ponds, choes, or any water bodies during the monsoon season due to high risk of accidents.
Removal of Fallen Trees:
- The Municipal Corporation and UT Engineering Department are instructed to immediately clear fallen trees from roads and public pathways.
Road Repairs and Safety:
- Urgent repairs of caved-in roads must be carried out.
- The Chandigarh Traffic Police will cordon off dangerous areas to prevent mishaps.
Manhole & Gully Safety:
- Civic authorities must ensure manholes and road gully covers are secured properly to avoid injury to pedestrians, cyclists, or motorists.
Waterlogged Underpasses:
- All underpasses, subways, and bridges that are waterlogged should be cordoned off and alternate routes provided.
- Citizens must avoid such areas without checking water levels.
Electrocution Prevention:
- Offices (public & private) must inspect premises for electrical hazards due to damp conditions or waterlogging.
- Municipal agencies to inspect electric poles and street lights to prevent any electrocution incidents.
Medical Preparedness:
- The Health Department has been directed to prepare for medical emergencies, including treatment for electrocution, drowning, or related injuries.
