Chennai Rains: 14 Die In City Hospital Due To Lack Of Electricity, Oxygen Cylinders

Even as the torrential rains in Tamil Nadu appeared to abate, the destruction and mayhem in its wake continues to be relentless. 14 patients in the ICU unit of the Madras Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (MIOT), Chennai, died on Friday due to power failure and insufficient oxygen cylinders, according to a live blog by The Indian Express

J Radhakrishnan, state health secretary, told IE that all of the patients who passed away were “highly critical” and that their bodies had been shifted to Royapettah government hospital. The rest of the patients at MIOT, which is situated near Guindy, on the banks of Adyar river, were discharged or shifted to various other hospitals. The names of the dead, according to IE, are:
