ESIC relaxes the eligibility condition under ESIC COVID-19 Relief Scheme.

The Employees State Insurance Corporation on 1st February 2022 has decided to relax the eligibility condition under ‘ESIC COVID-19 Relief Scheme. The Scheme was introduced to provide relief to the families of employees, covered under ESIC, who died of COVID-19.

As per the earlier eligibility condition, the insured person must have been registered under the ESI scheme at least 3 months prior to the date of diagnosis of COVID-19  and contribution in respect of whom have been paid or payable for at least 70 days during the period of maximum one year immediately preceding the diagnosis of COVID-19 disease.

However through this notification, the eligibility condition has been revised as follows:

“The deceased Insured Person must have been in employment on the date of diagnosis of COVID19 disease and contributions for at least 35 days should have been paid or payable in respect of him / her during a period of maximum one year immediately preceding the diagnosis of COVID-19 disease resulting in death”
