FSSAI Issues sampling plan for salt

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India in its advisory dated 25th November, 2019 has issued direction regarding sampling plan for salt for the purpose of enforcement of FSS (Fortification of Foods) Regulations, 2018.

The advisory has been issued as representations were received from salt manufacturers associations seeking exemption for enforcement of upper level of iodine content in iodized and iron-fortified salt mentioned under FSS (Fortification of Foods) Regulations, 2018.

FSSAI placed these concerns before the Scientific Panel which recommended to frame guidelines on sampling and enforcement of salt samples in order to prevent any harassment of FBOs in cases of non-compliance of stray samples as concerned raised by the salt manufacturers.

The Sampling plan containing general guidelines for sampling and the procedure for sampling, has been framed as per the recommendation. The Plan is only for production and bulk storage areas.
