The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a new advisory directing all Food Business Operators (FBOs) to prominently display the QR code and download link for the Food Safety Connect mobile app at their premises. This initiative is a strategic step to strengthen food safety surveillance and empower consumers by providing them with a user-friendly platform for lodging complaints and accessing information. This advisory was issued on July 25. 2025.
The advisory applies to all food service establishments, including restaurants, dhabas, cafes, and eateries. FBOs are now required to display their license or registration copy, which contains the QR code, in areas easily visible to customers, such as at the entrance, billing counter, or seating areas, in compliance with licensing regulations. Additionally, wherever applicable, FBOs must feature the app’s QR code or download link on their digital assets, including websites and online ordering platforms.
The Food Safety Connect app, developed by the FSSAI, serves as a vital tool for consumers, enabling them to:
- Lodge complaints about food safety and hygiene issues.
- Report misleading claims on food products.
- Access basic information about licensed or registered FBOs.
- Stay informed about food safety initiatives and alerts.
A key feature of the app is its ability to automatically route complaints to the appropriate jurisdictional authority, ensuring prompt redressal and minimizing delays in addressing food safety grievances. FBOs are being encouraged to actively support this initiative by ensuring the wide visibility of the app’s QR code and promoting its use among their customers.
