The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India vide Circular dated 29 June 2020 has directed the Commissioners of Food Safety in States/UTs to surveillance and restrict the use of stapled tea bags by FBOs without permission to use the same.
The FSSAI direction dated 18/7/2017 has mandated to discontinue the manufacture and distribution of stapled tea bags. 16 FBOs listed in the circular are allowed an extended period to discontinue the manufacture and distribution of stapled tea bags. The Commissioners of Food Safety in States/UTs shall take strict measures against any FBOs that manufacture and distribute stapled tea bags without obtaining such extension.
