The Labour Department of Puducherry in its notification dated 9th August, 2019 has issued Draft on Puducherry Factories (Amendment) Rules, 2019 and suggestions have been invited.
Key Highlights on the Draft Amendment Rules
A) The amendment seeks to provide sanitary napkins and disposable bins in the women’s washroom.
B) The occupier of every factory shall mandatorily provide Personal Protective equipment which is brought under rule 65J in the draft Amendment, in the parent rule there was no proper interpretation as to what would include personal protective equipment.
C) The occupier shall provide the following equipment to the workers of specific nature of hazards:
- Safety helmet: When work at height is being carried out by the workers, safety helmet shall be provided with a nape strap and periodic cleaning and visual inspection to check any deformation in size or shape shall be carried out.
- Protective footwear: workers who are exposed to hazards which likely to cause injury to them by way of materials being dropped on their feet or nail or other sharp objects penetrating their sole shall be provided with protective footwear.
- Safety google and spectacles.
- Equipment for eye and face protection during welding.
- Gloves and Protective Clothing.
- Ear protection when exposed to noise.
- Respiratory Protection.
- Other Appropriate personal protective equipment.
D) The Inspector may, having regard to the nature of the hazards involved in work and process being carried out, order the occupier or the Manager in writing to supply to the workers exposed to particular hazard any personal protective equipment.
