Government of West Bengal fixes the minimum rates of wages for employees in private hospitals and research centers.

The Labour Commissioner, Government of West Bengal vide notification dated 27th December 2019 has fixed the minimum rates of wages in the employment of private hospitals and research centers not carried on by Government or local authorities. 

The monthly minimum rate of wages for unskilled employees such as for helpers, cleaner, ward boy, peon etc working in Zone A shall be Rs. 8,349 and those who work in Zone B shall be Rs.7,307.  

 The monthly minimum rate of wages for semi-skilled workers like Lab Assistant, Blood Collector, Male Nursing Attendant, Male Medical Attendant, etc., working in Zone A shall be Rs.9,185 and Zone B shall be Rs.8,035

Skilled employee’s minimum rate of wages shall be Rs. 10,104 in zone A and Rs.8,840 in Zone B. Nurse, O.T. Assistant, Technician, X-Ray Technicians, C.T. Scan Technician, MRI Technician, Laboratory Technician, Dental Technician, Medical Record Keeper, Supervisor, Clerk, Cashier, Accountant, Cook belongs to skilled workers.

Senior Nurse, Pathologist, Matron, Dietician, Biochemist, Radiologist are categorized as highly skilled employees for whom the minimum rate of wages shall be Rs.11,113 in Zone A and those employed in Zone B shall be paid Rs.9,725.

The minimum rates of wages are applicable to employees employed by contractors also. For disabled persons, minimum rates of wages shall be same as payable to the workers of appropriate category.

Further both men and women employees shall get the same rates of wages for the same work or work of similar nature.
