Government Recognition: Mineral Oil Industry as a Public Utility Service

The Central Government, in line with the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, has recognized the vital role of the mineral oil industry as a public utility service. This encompasses the manufacturing or production of various oil products including crude oil, motor and aviation spirit, diesel oil, kerosene oil, fuel oil, and lubricating oils. Acknowledging the importance of uninterrupted operations within this sector, the government has extended its public utility service status for an additional six months, effective from February 28, 2024.

This decision ensures stability and continuity within the industry, safeguarding against potential disruptions that could arise from industrial disputes. By designating these services as public utilities, the government underscores their critical significance to the nation’s infrastructure and economy. This move aims to maintain smooth functioning and address any potential conflicts that may arise, thereby promoting industrial harmony and overall public welfare. The extension of this status reflects the government’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for industrial growth while prioritizing public interest. It underscores the importance of stability and reliability within the mineral oil industry, which plays a fundamental role in powering various sectors of the economy.
